Why
The Foundation’s philanthropy is rooted in Charlie Shor’s lived experience and deep belief that giving should create real, measurable change. The Foundation focuses on filling the gaps with thoughtful, collaborative investments to create long-term impact.
Rebuilding the Middle Class. Too many individuals lack clear, accessible pathways to stable, meaningful careers that sustain long-term financial independence and upward mobility. At the same time, skilled-trades and manufacturing industries face growing workforce shortages, declining talent pipelines, and fragmented workforce development systems. The Foundation helps bring together employers, educators, workforce organizations, and community partners to create stronger, more connected pathways into skilled trades and durable careers with long-term employability. to The Foundation champions initiatives that expose, empower, educate, employ, and elevate individuals through practical workforce pathways, hands-on learning opportunities, credentialing programs, scholarships, and employment-connected training models that strengthen both people and industry.
Community. Strong communities are built through local investment, opportunity, and long-term commitment to people and families. Through partnerships with organizations across Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, the Foundation is helping revitalize our communities, strengthen local support systems, and create lasting regional impact.

The Charles L. Shor Foundation takes a thoughtful, relationship-driven approach to philanthropy.
Unlike traditional, open application-based grant-making foundations, the Shor Foundation seeks the organizations to partner with based on research, community relationships, trusted referrals and direct outreach. Most importantly, the Foundation seeks partners who show measurable impact and accountability.
The Foundation partners with organizations who demonstrate creativity, thinking beyond conventional standards while leveraging proven tactics to deliver stronger, faster, and more sustainable results. Additionally, the Foundation pursues partners who show measurable impact and accountability. Above all, the Foundation seeks partners who have plans to become self-sustaining following the Foundation’s initial financial investment.
The Foundation’s process is intentionally collaborative. They work with prospective partners to help refine project scope, clarify outcomes, strengthen sustainability planning, and ensure alignment before final funding decisions are made.
The Foundation believes the most successful philanthropy is the result of organizations, communities, and funders working together with trust, shared purpose, and a commitment to meaningful impact.
