Gerry Otto is passionate about the intersection of mission, capital, and execution — translating philanthropic intent into strategy, building the infrastructure to deliver it, and ensuring every dollar and decision is aligned to measurable, durable outcomes. His leadership is based on the conviction that the team is the greatest asset; the work is purpose-driven; and meaningful impact is a marathon, not a sprint. He prizes outcomes over activity, builds environments where people own results, and believes the ability to learn quickly — especially from mistakes — is a defining advantage.

Otto has served the organization for more than a decade, beginning in Financial Planning & Analysis, and rising to become CEO. Prior to joining the Shor Foundation, Otto held roles in financial advisory work and accounting and financial analysis within manufacturing environments.

Otto keeps the organization focused on the “why”— Charlie Shor’s story and philanthropic intent that drives all decisions. He believes philanthropy should be catalytic and results driven. His approach is equal parts strategic and pragmatic. 

Otto is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a bachelor’s degree in economics and a Master of Science in Finance. His north star is simple and demanding: better health outcomes, a stronger middle class, and opportunity expanded through empowerment.

Outside the office, Otto grounds himself in outdoor pursuits including hunting and fishing. He enjoys cooking, exercise and is deeply committed to holistic wellness. Above all, his essential character is shaped by his relationship with Jesus Christ and his devotion to family.
